Download Android 4.0.3 Firmware

Steps to Update Xperia Play with Android 4.0.3 Firmware:

Before proceeding into the instructions, you have to make sure that the Boot Loader of your Xperia Play is Unlocked and it is rooted.

Step-1: Download Android 4.0.3 Firmware from the Must Have section and connect the smartphone via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. Copy the downloaded ICS file to your phone and disconnect the connected USB cable.

Step-2: Enable USB debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”and tick the USB Debugging option. The USB Debugging Mode can only be enabled after disconnecting the phone from the computer.

enable usb debugging

Step-3: Power off your phone to enter into Recovery mode. Press Power button and while the device is rebooting, press the Volume Rocker keys a couple of times to boot into Recovery mode. When the device enters into Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker keys to move around and Power button to select the options.

Step-4: In Recovery mode, select “Install zip from sd card” > “Choose zip from sd card” and choose the Android 4.0.3 firmware zip file placed in your phone. It will take about 10 minutes for the entire updation process to complete. After the updation process is complete, you will again land up in Recovery mode. Choose “++++ Go Back ++++” > “Reboot system now” option to reboot the device successfully.

Restore all the data that you had previously taken a backup of and also the APN settings as they are responsible for accessing internet. In case the device enters into  boot loop mode then you have to re-apply the entire procedure again from the beginning.

Thus you can easily update Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone with the latest Android 4.0.3 Firmware by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
