Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 users can now update their device to an all new version of Gingerbread also known as Gingerbread JPKP 2.3.4 firmware. This indigenous firmware is found to be really stable and is reported to be bug free after days of thorough testing. Anyone with Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 can proceed with the update irrespective of the current firmware they are running on as it is a global release.
While applying this update, your phone will get rooted and even if you have already rooted your device before applying this update, the rooting access will get revoked again as soon as the update is applied on phone. Rooting will void the warranty but you need not worry about it since this firmware comes with boot loader that lets you claim back the warranty with Samsung Electronics after applying this update. This update procedure will be performed using Odin flash tool rather than KIES tool since it is not an official but a beta release.
You must backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup can help you replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Follow the link posted below to backup and restore all your data easily.
Steps to apply Gingerbread JPKP5 2.3.4 on your Samsung Galaxy SL I9003:
Step-1: Download Gingerbread JPKP5 2.3.4 Zip file to your computer or laptop and unzip them. Enter the password as Coveringandroid.com if it prompts you to enter any password.
Step-2: Extract the zip files to your desktop so that they can be sited easily when required. After the files are successfully extracted, match them with the image given below and if a single file is found missing, download the zip file again.
Step-3: Power Off your phone and open Odin .exe from the extracted files. Enter your device into download mode by pressing the Volume Down Key + OK button and holding both press Power button simultaneously.
Step-4: Once you enter into download mode connect your phone to the computer via USB Cable while keeping the ODIN opened.

Step-6: After cross checking the files section, tap on “Start” option. Now the firmware updation process will start and you will see the progress in Odin screen as shown below.
The device will be updated after 5-10mins and will reboot on its own. Do not interrupt the updation process at this point since any kind of interruption may lead to bricking of your phone.
Step-7: If the progress bar remains constant for more than 5mins, disconnect your phone, remove its battery then re-insert it and again follow the process from the beginning. After the firmware is updated, your phone will restart on its own and you will be asked to enter the Google account credentials and language settings.
Step-8: Turn Off your phone to enter into recovery mode. Now press Volume Up Key + OK button and holding both press Power button simultaneously. On entering the recovery mode select Wipe data/factory reset then select Wipe Cache partition. Now reboot your device by selecting the option reboot system now. In case the phone boots normally you must repeat the button combination again to enter into recovery mode.
We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the updation procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. The update procedure is only applicable to Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 phones so do not try it in any other devices as it may not be reversible and harm the device by blocking it.
