Steps to Update Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware in HTC Desire S:
Before proceeding into the updation instructions, you have to make sure that your Desire S smartphone is rooted as this procedure will only work on rooted phones.
Step-1: Download Gingerbread 2.3.5 Update from the Must Have section to your computer and connect your phone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. Copy the downloaded zip file to your phone without modifying or renaming them in any manner. Do not place the zip file deep into any sub-folders else it wont get detected during Recovery mode.
Step-2: After you have copied all the files, remove the connected USB Cable and power off the phone to enter into Boot loader mode by pressing the Volume Down button + OK button and holding both press Power button simultaneously. If the device boots into Normal mode then re-try to enter into Boot loader mode till you are finally there.
Step-3: In Boot loader mode select the option of “Recovery” to enter into Recovery mode. In Recovery mode select the options of ”Install zip from SD Card” and choose the file named as “HTC_DESIRE_S_2.3.5-2.10.401.4.zip” placed in your phone.
Step-4: After selecting the file, the firmware will get updated successfully. If the device gets hung somewhere in the middle of the updation process then re-apply the instructions again from the beginning. To confirm whether the firmware has been updated successfully or not, navigate to the path Settings >About Phone > Firmware Version where you will discover the firmware version as Gingerbread 2.3.5.
You can restore back all the data that you had previously taken a back up of and also re-configure the APN and MMS Settings in order to access internet via 3G / GPRS. Thus you can easily update your HTC Desire S smartphone with Gingerbread 2.3.5 firmware by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
