How to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with Gingerbread XWKL1 2.3.6 Firmware

Cheers to all Samsung Galaxy S II users since a new update in the form of an Official firmware has arrived. This new firmware is known as Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware. You can also apply this update with the help of KIES including the ones who are running on beta firmwares and also those whose devices KIES doesn’t recognize can manually apply this update by following the procedure described in this article. Even though it’s a Global update with Multi CSC this procedure is especially applicable for Indian Galaxy S2 GT I9100 users. But nevertheless it can be applied by any S2 I9100 users.

We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the updation procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. This updation procedure is only applicable to Samsung Galaxy S GT I9100 phones so do not try it in any other devices such as Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G and Samsung Galaxy GT I9100G as it may not be reversible and harm the device by blocking it. In case you are not sure about your phone’s model number then you can check the model number by dialing “*#1234#” in your phone after which you will discover your phone’s model number.

Pre-Requisites:

Backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup can help you to replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Do not use KIES to back up the data mentioned below as it may or may not support KIES after Rooting. Follow the link posted below to backup and restore all your data easily.

Must Have:

Download Gingerbread 2.3.6 Package

Steps to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with Gingerbread XWKL1 2.3.6 Firmware:

Step-1: Download Gingerbread 2.3.6 Package from the Must Have section to your computer. Unzip it and place it on the desktop for easy accessibility.

Step-2: Open Odin tool in your computer and enable USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development> USB Debugging”

Power off your phone to enter your device into Download mode by pressing the Volume Down Key + (OK)Center button and holding both press Power button simultaneously.

Step-3: Once you enter into download mode connect your phone to the computer via USB Cable while keeping the ODIN opened. Now the drivers will get installed and ID: COM will turn yellow indicating that you can now proceed to the next step. It may take 3-4mins for the ID:COM block to install all the drivers hence wait till the process completes. Dont proceed to the next step if the ID:COM block doesn’t turn yellow.

In case ID: COM section doesn’t turn yellow, install Samsung USB Drivers, .NET Framework and update KIES with the latest version so that the missing drivers can be installed.

Step-4: Now click on “PDA” to select the file named as “GTI9100_INU_I9100XWKL1_I9100ODDKL1_I9100DDKL1.tar.md5” then tap on click on Start in Odin to begin the firmware updation process. After the process gets over, the phone will restart. Disconnect the phone from computer when the phone restarts and you see the Home Screen.

Step-5: Close Odin in computer and power off your phone to enter into Download Mode again. Power on the device in Download mode, open Odin in your computer and connect your phone to computer via USB Cable. When the phone is connected, ID:COM will turn yellow. Now click on PDA to select the file named as “Kernel_I9100XWKL1.tar.md5” then tap on Start in Odin to begin the firmware updation process. Within a minute the phone will get updated and will automatically restart.

When you see the home screen, disconnect the USB Cable and there you go your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 is now updated with the latest Gingerbread 2.3.6 version.

If you are facing problems related to force close errors then enter into Recovery mode by pressing Volume Up key + OK button and holding both simultaneously press Power button.

In Recovery Mode, choose “Wipe Data / Factory reset then choose “Wipe Cache Partition” and reboot your device by choosing the option  of  “Reboot system now”.

    there is another zip file in the zip file and it does not accept the password Coveringandroid.com.
