Steps to Update Galaxy S GT I9100 with ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware:
Step-1: Enable USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
Download ICS Android 4.0.3 Package from the Must Have section to your computer, unzip it and place it on the desktop for easy accessibility. During the extraction process you will be prompted to enter a password so give the password as android.
Step-2: After the files are successfully extracted match them with the image given below and if a single file is found missing, download the zip file again. The size of zip file is +++MB.

It may take 3-4mins for the ID:COM block to install all the drivers hence wait till the process completes. Dont proceed to the next step if the ID:COM block doesn’t turn yellow.
In case the ID: COM doesn’t turn yellow then you need to install Samsung USB Drivers, .NET Framework and update KIES with the latest version so that the missing drivers get installed.
Step-5: In ODIN click on the tabs as mentioned below and select the files as mentioned from extracted files.

Step-6: Double check whether the selected files match or not then tap on “Start” to begin the updation process. It will take up to 10mins for the whole firmware process to get applied successfully. After the firmware is successfully applied, the device will reboot.
Installation of Kernel:
It is very important to install the Kernel after applying the firmware. If you do not apply the Kernel there may arise some issues pertaining to the firmware not getting updated successfully as problems relating to network outrage and force close errors may come up.
Step-7: Disconnect your phone from the computer and power Off your phone to enter your device into Download mode while keeping the Odin opened. Once you enter into download mode connect your phone to the computer via USB Cable and and ID: COM will turn yellow.
Step-8: Click on the PDA tab in Odin and select the file named as PDA I9100_KERNEL_I9100XXKP9_CL45181_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5. Do not select any other file in any other option such as PIT and so on.
Step-9: Within a span of 2mins your Kernel will be applied and once it is applied, the phone will automatically reboot. When you see the home screen, power off your device and disconnect it from the computer. After installation of Kernel is complete, enter your device into Recovery Mode by pressing Volume Up Key + (OK)Center button and holding both press Power button simultaneously.
Step-10: In Recovery mode choose “Wipe data/ Factory reset” then choose “Wipe Cache partition” and reboot your device by clicking on “Reboot system now” option using the help of Volume Rocker keys. If the phone boots normally then repeat the button combination till you enter into Recovery mode.
To check whether your phone has successfully updated or not navigate to the path “Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version” where you will discover the firmware version of XXKPA Android 4.0.3. In case you see any other firmware version then you have to re-apply the entire procedure again from the beginning.
