All those who have already rooted their Motorola Xoom tablets can now easily proceed to apply the latest version of Cyanogen Mod. Yes you can apply the latest release of Cyanogen Mod 9 that has just rolled out fresh. However it is to be noted that in order to apply this update, you would require to root your Motorola Xoom tablet that in turn will void the warranty. But you can invalidate the rooting access by re-applying the stock or default firmware again.
This firmware is the beta custom ROM and is the latest version of ICS Android 4.0.3 in the form of Cyanogen Mod 9. Since this is the beta version there may be some minor issues with this firmware but we hope that a more stable build will roll out soon. Steps to Update Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware in Xoom:
Basically there are two methods to install this firmware one is the normal method and the other is by Fast boot method. We have covered each of the procedures in detail.
Step-1: Download ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware Package from the Must Have section to your computer and connect the device to the computer via USB Cable. Enable USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging”
Step-2: Power off your Motorola Xoom to enter into recovery mode by holding the Volume Down button while the Motorola logo is shown. In recovery mode you will come across an option of “Flash Zip From SD Card > Choose Zip From SD Card to select the ICS Zip file placed in your Motorola Xoom tablet.
Step-3: Again in recovery mode you will come across an option of “Flash Zip From SD Card > Choose Zip From SD Card to select the Google Apps Zip file placed in your tablet.
Fast Boot Method:
All those users who could not update this firmware by the normal method can opt for this Fast boot method.
Step-1: Boot your Motorola Xoom into recovery and perform a Nandroid back up. Now copy the images that are present that is the system.img and boot.img to the location where fast boot.exe is located. Take out the SD Card and power off your phone.
Step-2: Boot your device into boot loader mode by pressing Power ON button followed by pressing Volume up button till you come across the boot loader screen. Open the terminal or command prompt and navigate to the fast boot .exe that is usually present in “C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\fastboot.exe”
Step-3: Right click on it and open the command window then type in the following commands mentioned below
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
Thus you can easily update the latest Cyanogen mod 9 in your Motorola Xoom tablet by following the above mentioned steps carefully.
