Steps to Update Android 4.0.3 Firmware in Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500:

Before proceeding int the instructions you have to make sure that your Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500 is rooted. Follow the link posted below to root your device.

Steps to root Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Step-1: Download Android 4.0.3 Package from the Must Have section followed by Google Apps to your computer. Enable USB Debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Make sure to tick the USB Debugging option.

Step-2: Connect your smartphone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. Copy the downloaded zip file to your phone and make sure not to place this zip file deep into any sub-folder in your phone. After copying is over, disconnect the USB Cable and power off the phone to enter into Recovery Mode.

Step-3: The Recovery Mode can be entered by pressing the Volume Up key+ Menu Key + Power button simultaneously. In Recovery mode choose the options of  “Wipe data/factory reset” > “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all the cache present in your device. Next select “install zip from SD Card” > “choose zip from SD Card” then locate the ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware zip file placed in your phone and select it by pressing the Power button.

Step-4: After the firmware is successfully updated, the device will reboot or land up in Recovery screen again. In Recovery mode screen select the option of “++++ Go Back ++++” > “reboot system now” to reboot the phone in ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware. It might take longer than 8 – 10 minutes to display the home screen. When the home screen shows up, again power off your phone to boot into Recovery mode.

Step-5: In Recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” > “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all the cache and then choose the options of  “++++ Go Back ++++” > “Reboot system now” to restart the Galaxy 5. If the process gets stuck somewhere in the middle then, pull out the battery, re-insert it and re-apply the instructions again from the beginning.
