HTC Evo 4G finally gets upgraded with a new firmware version with the arrival of ICS Android 4.0. You can now update your HTC Evo 4G with an all new Android 4.0.3 firmware. This is not the stock beta update but is the custom ROM firmware for Evo Shift 4G in the form of ICS. It is to be noted that this is not the official firmware release by HTC but is the alpha version developed by third party developers.

You require a rooted HTC Evo 4G smartphone to proceed into the updation procedure. You ought to backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup can help you replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Do not use HTC Sync to back up the data as it may or may not be able to recognize it since this is the alpha ICS release. Steps to Update Android 4.0.3 Firmware in HTC Evo 4G:
Step-1: First of all root your HTC Evo 4G smartphone then download Android 4.0.3 Custom ROM followed by Google Apps from the Must Have section to your computer. Connect the smartphone via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time and copy both the downloaded zip files to your phone’s SD Card.
Step-2: Remove the connected USB Cable after copying the file and enable USB Debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
Step-3: Power off your phone to enter into Boot loader mode by pressing Volume up key + OK button and holding both press Power button simultaneously. If the device enters into Normal mode then try to enter into Boot loader mode multiple times till you are finally there.
Step-4: In Boot loader mode select “Recovery” to enter the device in the recovery mode. Now in Recovery mode choose “Clear Storage” to clear all cache data from your phone then choose “Install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from sd card” to select the ICS Android 4.0.3 zip file placed in your phone.
Step-5: It will take about 10 minutes to apply this update and after the update is successfully applied, you will again land up in recovery mode. So choose the option of ”++++Go Back++++” then “Reboot system now” to reboot the phone. You can check whether the firmware has been successfully applied or not from the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will discover the firmware version as Android 4.0.3. If you find any other version then reapply the same procedure again from the beginning.
Now you can restore back all the data that you took previously took a back up of and also configure the APN and Internet settings to access data and internet. Thus you can easily update your HTC Evo 4G smartphone with the latest Android 4.0.3 firmware by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
