We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the rooting procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. The rooting procedure is only applicable to Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i smartphones that are network unlocked so do not try it in any other devices as it might not be reversible and will harm the device by blocking it.

Backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup will help you replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Follow the link posted below to backup and restore all your data easily.

Pre Upgrade Instructions for Rooting and Firmware Update

Make sure that you are running on “4.0.A.2.368” version. You can check the version from the path Settings > About Phone >Firmware Version where you will discover the Android OS version as 4.0.A.2.368 Gingerbread 2.3.3 version.

Make sure that you have Sony’s PC Suite installed in your computer and use the computer or laptop that has ADMIN privileges. If some particular ports are locked, you may face issues in the COM Port. In case it displays the error of Port then restart the computer then re try the entire rooting procedure as mentioned below.

Must Have:

Download boot.img fileDownload Short fuse appDownload Flash Tool

Steps to Root Xperia Mini Pro SK17i on 4.0.A.2.368:

Step-1: Download boot.img file followed by Short fuse app from the Must Have section to your computer. Install the Short fuse application in your computer and make sure that the boot.img file is placed in the same folder where you have kept fastboot.exe file.

Step-2: Power off your phone and connect it to the computer in fastboot mode that is connect the phone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. Now flash the boot.img file using the code mentioned below

Fastboot flash boot boot.img

Do not rename the boot.img file that you have downloaded and placed in the folder else the entire rooting procedure wont work out. Confirm that you receive the “OK” message at the end of flashing after which you have to disconnect the USB Cable.

Step-3: Turn on the phone and when the phone boots up make sure to enable the option of “unknown sources and USB Debugging” present in the Settings. Again connect the phone to the computer and start the Super One Click application in your Computer.

Step-4: Next tap on Root option or alternatively you can tap on FLASHTOOL then click on Root. When you click on Root,  the device will get rooted after which the device will either blink or restart. Now the device will reboot and you will discover a  Super user application in skull shape indicating that the device has been rooted successfully. Open the Super user application and allow rooting access if it prompts you to do so.

Thus you can easily root your Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i smartphone by following the steps mentioned above carefully.

Thank you for postig this tutorial.
    I need some more help:
    - I should copy the boot.img in the same folder as fastboot.exe but where can I find fastboot.exe? You did not mention it so far. Should I download it? Is it already in my pc somewhere? Where?
    - How can I flash the boot.img file using the code Fastboot flash boot boot.img? Is it a command? Do I have to start a programm first?

Sorry for asking and thank you for answering

Thank you for your very fast answer! However I still have some questions:

    Step 1:
There are two applications in the folder “SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse”: adb.exe and superoneclick.exe. Which one is the shortfuse application that I must install in step 1?

    Step 2:
What do you mean by “connect your phone in ‘fastboot mode’?

How do I flash the boot.img file using the code Fastboot flash boot boot.img? With the flashtool.exe? I tried to doubleclick flashtool.exe but hten I’m asked to open some kind of file. Which file do I have to open? Is it the right application anyway to flash boot.img?

    Step 3:
    No problem so far

    Step 4:
When tapping ‘root’ in superoneclick: do I chose exploit ‘psneuter’ or exploit ‘rageagainstthecage’?
The alternative with tapping ‘flashtool’ is not clear as there is no such function in superoneclick.

      Step 1:
Download the short fuse apps,boot.img,fastboot.exe & put them into a single folder without renaming any file. Open cmd.exe and execute the adb.exe first then flashboot.exe file.

      Step 2:
“connect your phone in ‘fastboot mode’ means connect the phone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. While connecting your smartphone to the computer, mobile should be powered of and when the cmd shows waiting for device at that time power on your smartphone.

      Step 4:
Download Flashtool from the Must Have section

It doesn’t work. Whatever I do I get stuck at some point. Maybe I should change to the “rooting for dummies” section. Thank you anyway for your support!
