Steps to Root Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Android 4.0.4 Firmware:

Step-1: Download Super user Package followed by Clock Work Mod Recovery from the Must Have section to your computer. Enable USB Debugging Mode in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. Make sure to tick the option of USB Debugging.

Step-2: Launch the terminal window or command prompt in your computer and enter the commands mentioned below sequentially one by one. You have to wait for a minimum of 5seconds after entering each command for the commands to process.

fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img

Step-3: After the above commands get processed, scroll down with the help of Volume buttons and choose “Recovery Mode” then press “Power Button” to select it. Now the device will boot in Clock Work Mod recovery. In Recovery mode select the option of “install zip from SD Card” then choose “su.zip” file by the help of Volume rocker keys and press the Power button.

Step-4: After the Super user is successfully flashed, select the options of  “++++ Go Back ++++” > “Reboot system now” to restart the phone after which the device will get rooted successfully.
