Steps to Root Motorola Milestone:

Step-1: Download the respective Motorola USB Drivers for 32 Bit / 64 Bit to your computer. Next download and install RSD Lite tool in your computer then download Vulnerable Recovery SBF File followed by Milestone Root Update Zip Package from the Must Have section to your computer.

Step-2: After downloading all the tools as mentioned in the above step, install the USB Drivers and connect your phone to the computer via original USB cable. Within a span of a minute the device will get detected in your computer. Rename the milestone_root.zip file to update.zip and copy the renamed file to your SD Card. Make sure not to place the files deep in any sub-folders in your phone else it will be difficult to locate it during Recovery mode.

Step-3: After copying the files to the computer, disconnect the USB Cable from the computer. Enable USB Debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.

Run RSD Lite tool in your computer that will display the model number as “A853” and will also display a status message as “Connected”.

Step-4: Press the “…” button to browse for the file named as “vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf” and load it. Next press the “Start” button to enter into boot loader mode and flash the recovery firmware placed in your phone. After flashing is complete,

Step-5: Exit from the RSD Lite tool and disconnect the USB Cable from the computer. Now power off the phone to enter into recovery mode. Press and hold ‘X’ button then press power button till the phone boots into recovery. Next press and hold Volume up button then press Camera button to get into Recovery mode.

Step-6: In Recovery mode select “Clear storage” to clear all data present in your phone then choose “Install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from sd card” to select the zip file of “update.zip” file placed in your phone. It will take about 3-4 mins for the rooting process to complete. After the device is rooted, you will again land up in Recovery mode screen. In Recovery mode, select the option of “++++ Go Back ++++” then choose “Reboot system now” option to restart the device normally.
