Motorola Droid 2 – Step by Step Tutorial to Root

All those eagerly waiting to root their Motorola Droid 2 smartphone have been rewarded for their patience. Yes you can now root your Motorola Droid 2 and install the latest custom ROMs like the ICS Android 4.0 version. However it is to be noted that rooting will void the warranty and the only way you can reclaim back the lost warranty is by restoring back the Original stock firmware.

We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the rooting procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. The rooting procedure is only applicable to Motorola Droid 2 smartphones that are network unlocked so do not try it in any other devices as it might not be reversible and will harm the device by blocking it.


Backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup will help you replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Pre Upgrade Instructions for Rooting and Firmware Update

Must Have:

Download ADBDownload rageagainstthecage-arm5Download Motorola 5.0.0 device Drivers (Windows Only)Download Super user package

Steps to Root Motorola Droid 2:

Step-1: Download all the tools mentioned in the Must Have section to your computer. Unzip the rageagainstthecage-arm5 and Super user package to the same folder as ADB that is the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder and connect your phone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time.

Step-2: After connection is done, open the terminal and enter the commands mentioned below.

adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/

adb shell

chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin


Step-3: Next enter the commands given below in command line.


adb kill-server

adb start-server

adb shell

Step-4: You will come across a “#” symbol but if you see a “$” then the procedure dint work properly so you have to repeat the procedure again from the beginning. This time enter the commands sequentially with a gap of 2-3 seconds so that the commands are processed properly. Now type in the rest of the commands as mentioned below.

mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system


adb push su /system/xbin/

adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su

adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/

Thus you can easily root your Motorola Droid 2 by following the above mentioned steps.
