Those of you who possess HTC Desire S can now root their smartphone and also install Custom Recovery in it. This procedure comes as a relief for all those users who had eagerly waited to root their device and thereby enjoy the goodness of custom ROMs.
The entire procedure is performed in two stages: first is to turn the S off and second is to install custom recovery image. It is to be noted that rooting will void the warranty and there is no alternate way to reclaim back the lost warranty as the rooting procedure includes the beta key that you have to provide by entering the serial number of your device. The key comes from HTC officially and warranty gets void as soon as the key is registered.
We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the rooting procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. This rooting procedure is only applicable to HTC Desire S smartphones that are not network locked so do not try it in any other devices as it may not be reversible and might harm the device by blocking it.
You ought to backup all the user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup will help you to replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Do not use KIES to back up the data mentioned below as it may or may not support KIES after Rooting. Follow the link posted below to backup and restore all your data easily.

Step-1: Make sure that HBoot is present in Desire S along with the essential serial number. To check for HBoot you have to boot the device into boot loader mode by turning off the device and then again turn it back on by holding Volume down and Power button. You can find the serial number from the battery below else via ADB from the command “adb devices / fastboot devices”

Download it and a notification called “Beta Key” will appear where you need to fill in the details like your operating system, device name, HBOOT version and serial number of your phone. Once you are done, click on “Generate Key”.
Step-4: Connect your device to the computer via USB cable and open the revolutionary beta application downloaded from the above link. Now enter the correct beta key that you got in the above process.
