Steps to Root & Install Custom Recovery in HTC Desire HD:
Basically the entire procedure is sub-divided into three parts. First is the Rooting tutorial, second is turn the S Off and third is to Install Custom Recovery. We will go through each of the procedure in detail.
Steps to Root HTC Desire HD:
Step-1:Enable USB Debugging Mode from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Make sure that the USB Debugging option is ticked.
Step-2: Download Paul’s Visionary Plus Tool from the Must Have section to your computer and connect the smartphone via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time. Copy the downloaded zip file to your phone and make sure not to place the copied zip file deep in any sub folders else it wont get detected in the phone.
Step-3: Install the Visionary Plus tool in your phone and run the application. Make sure to enable the option of “Set system r/w”. Tap on the option of “Temp Root Now” and wait for the process to complete. After the process completes, tap on “Permanent Root” option to root the phone permanently.
Step-4: After the process completes, the device will reboot. Next you have to download and install “Terminal Emulator” application from the Must Have section and open it to run the app. Now in the terminal emulator type the command “su” and run it after which “#” sign will be displayed indicating that the device has been successfully rooted.
In case “*” sign is displayed, it means the device is not rooted and you have to re-follow the entire procedure again from the start. Disconnect the USB cable after the process is over.
Steps to turn S Off:
Step-1: Download the Engineering Version of HBOOT from the Must Have section to your computer and unzip it. Connect the smartphone via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time and copy the extracted folder to your phone.
Step-2: After all the files are copied,
rename the copied folder to DHD and disconnect the USB cable connected to the computer. Open the “Terminal Emulator” in your phone and type in the following commands sequentially one after another.
Step-3: If everything works fine type in the following commands
The second command will install HBoot that will completely turn Off the S in your Desire HD.
Steps to Install Custom Recovery:
Step-1: Download and install the latest version of ROM Manager application from the Must Have section to your smartphone. After ROM Manager application is successfully installed, open the app and click on the option of “Flash Clock
Work MOD Recovery” after which a series of devices will be displayed out of which you need to choose the option of “HTC Desire HD”.
Step-2: Next select the option of “Reboot in Recovery” after which the device will reboot into Recovery mode and the Custom Recovery image will get installed in your Desire HD smartphone.
If the process gets stuck somewhere in the middle then re-apply the instructions again from the beginning. Thus you can successfully root your HTC Desire HD smartphone and install Custom Recovery in it by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
