Steps to Root HTC Sensation:
Basically the entire rooting procedure is sub-divided into three steps. First is gaining the S-OFF by using Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool, second is installing ClockworkMod Recovery in HTC Sensation and last is the permanent rooting procedure. Let’s go through each of the procedure in detail.
Gaining S-OFF Via Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool:
Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool is the best option when you want to unlock the bootloader (S-OFF) and recovery of your smartphone. Installing the Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool in your smartphone enables you to easily root your device, explore a variety of Custom ROMs and install custom kernels freely without any hassles.
Step-1: Pull out your cell phone’s battery and have a look at the label inside the battery compartment. Your cell phone’s serial number should be printed there usually beside the “S/N” level. Note down the smartphone’s serial number.
Step-2: Power Off your phone while pressing the Volume down and Power buttons simultaneously for a couple of seconds. The phone will boot into a white screen and will display the device information along with the HBOOT version. Note down the HBOOT version number and reboot your phone.
Step-3: Browse through the Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool website and download the appropriate package for your platform (i.e., Linux or Windows). When the package starts downloading, you will be redirected to a “Beta Key” form and you have to fill in the form with your device’s serial number and HBOOT version number. Tap on “Generate Key” button to get your beta key and note down this beta key as you will be needing it to run the Revolutionary tool.
Step-4: After the package file for Revolutionary tool finishes downloading, extract the files into a folder to your computer’s hard drive and enable USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > USB Debugging”.
Connect your HTC Sensation to the computer via original USB cable obtained at purchase time. When asked for a connection type, choose “HTC Sync” and ignore all warning messages saying that your phone could not find HTC Sync.
Step-5: Launch the Revolutionary tool (revolutionary.exe). A command prompt window will open and will prompt you to enter the beta key. The beta key is case-sensitive so type or copy paste the beta key for Revolutionary into the terminal or command prompt window. Press Enter to allow the tool to proceed and wait for the Revolutionary to enable S-OFF and unlock the rewritable NAND in your handset.
After the process completes, the ClockworkMod Recovery will get installed in your phone. But in some cases the recovery image does not get installed and in this case you have to manually install ClockworkMod Recovery as described in the next part or else you can skip to the third part to root your HTC Sensation permanently.
Install ClockworkMod Recovery in HTC Sensation:
ClockworkMod Recovery is a custom recovery for Android devices that allows you to execute a number of advanced recovery, restoration, installation, and maintenance operations that you otherwise can’t perform using stock recovery. It also enables you to flash unsigned files based on .zip packages and flash custom ROMs pretty easily.
Step-1: Download ClockworkMod Recovery from the Must Have section to your computer and copy the PG58IMG file to the root i.e., the main folder of your phone’s SD card .
Step-2: Disable fast boot option in Settings > Applications > Fast boot, then power off the phone and reboot into the bootloader/HBOOT screen by pressing and holding Volume down and Power buttons simultaneously. In bootloader mode, your phone will automatically detect the new file and will prompt you if you want to start the update. Press the Volume Up button to begin the updation.
Step-3: After the file is flashed, reboot your phone then delete the file from SD card or rename it to something else, or else each time you try to enter into bootloader, the phone will ask you to install that file.
Thus you now have ClockworkMod Recovery installed in your smartphone and are ready to permanently root your HTC Sensation.
Root HTC Sensation Permanently:
Step-1: Disable fast boot option in Settings and power off your device to enter into bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume down button and Power button simultaneously. Now select Recovery to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step-2: In Recovery, create a Nandroid backup by browsing to Backup & Restore > backup. In case you have already created a backup, choose “Install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card”.
Step-3: Next select su-22.214.171.124-ef-signed.zip from the list and choose “Yes – install su-126.96.36.199-efgh-signed.zip” to install it. Reboot your handset after installation is complete.
Thus you can easily root HTC Sensation smartphone by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
