Often Android mobile users have encountered issues pertaining to loss of their IMEI numbers. This is indeed a matter of concern since re-implanting an IMEI is not a simple task plus highly unrecommended. So here we are with a simple tutorial on how Samsung Galaxy S2 users can recover their IMEI number without much hassle. Recovering your IMEI number is quiet important because without this number some network operators do not allow accessing of the network that can be quiet painful and irritating at times. People generally tend to loose IMEI numbers during the custom ROM firmware updation process.
We wont be responsible for any harm caused to your device during the recovery procedure that is unlikely to happen if you follow the instructions carefully. The recovery procedure is not recommended for basic users but is for advanced users and is only applicable on Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphones that are network unlocked. Do not apply it in any other device as it might not be reversible and may harm the device by blocking it.
Backup all user data present in your phone since chances of data loss or corruption are there. Having a backup can help you replace the lost data if any damage occurs. Follow the link posted below to backup and restore all your data easily.
Steps to Recover IMEI of Samsung Galaxy S2:
Step-1: Launch the “Root Explorer” application in your phone and backup the folder named as “EFS” to your SD card. Make another copy of it and store it in your
computer. After you have made sure that you have backed up the EFS folder, delete the folder from the root of your phone with the help of Root explorer.
Step-2: Reset the phone and navigate to the root through the Root explorer and you will discover that the EFS Folder still exists. This EFS folder is the new one and not the old one automatically generated by Android OS. Now from the EFS Folder, delete the files named “nv_data.bin”, “nv_data.bin.md5″.
Step-3: Navigate to the EFS Folder that is backed up in your device’s SD Card and copy the “IMEI” folder to the EFS Folder in your phone. Next copy the “.nv_data” file in the EFS Folder to the root of the phone via Root explorer.
Step-4: Make another copy of “.nv_data” file in the EFS folder of your phone so that you will have two copies of “.nv_data”. Rename one of the ”.nv_data.bin” file to “nv_data.bin” and another one to “nv_data.bin.bak”.
Step-5: Open the command prompt in your PC at ADB tool path or run the terminal window in your phone to enter the commands mentioned below
adb shell ( use this command of you use ADB, if you’re using terminal, skip this line )
su ( ALLOW THE MESSAGE CAME AT YOUR PHONE’s DISPLAY BY SUPERUSER PROGRAM )
chown 1001:radio /efs/nv_data.bin
Step-6: Finally reset the phone and the original IMEI will have got restored which you can check by dialing *#06# from your phone.
