You can now apply the latest Gingerbread 2.3.6 version that is the XWJVZ to Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000. This version has fixed bugs that caused heating of phone while playing games like NFS Shift HD and others. The process can be applied by any Galaxy S GT I9000 users irrespective of the firmware they are running on as it is a Global update. This is not the official firmware release but the beta leaked version thus the updation procedure is performed using the Odin tool instead of the Official KIES tool.

Step-1: Download XWJVZ 2.3.6 Gingerbread Firmware package from the Must Have section to your computer, unzip it and place it on the desktop for easy accessibility. During the extraction process you will be prompted to enter a password so give the password as Coveringandroid.com
Step-2: After the files are successfully extracted, match them with the image given below and if a single file is found missing, download the zip file again.
Step-3: Open Odin .exe from the extracted files and power Off your phone to enter your device into download mode by pressing the Volume Down Key + Center button and holding both press Power button simultaneously.
Step-4: Once you enter into download mode connect your phone to the computer via USB Cable while keeping the ODIN opened. Now the drivers will get installed and ID: COM will turn yellow indicating that you can now proceed to the next step. It may take 3-4mins for the ID:COM block to install all the drivers hence wait till the process completes. Dont proceed to the next step if the ID:COM block doesn’t turn yellow.
Step-5: Click on the respective tabs in Odin as shown below

Now click on Start. Now the firmware updation process will start and after the firmware is updated, your phone will restart on its own. You have to wait for a couple of minutes for the updation process to complete.
Step-6: After the phone has rebooted, it will prompt you to enter the Language Settings and Google Account credentials. To confirm whether the firmware has been successfully updated or not, navigate to “Applications > Settings > About Phone” where you will discover the firmware version as XWJVZ 2.3.6 Gingerbread version.
For Users Encountering Force close Problems:
If you are facing problems related to force close errors then, turn Off your phone and enter into Recovery mode by pressing Volume Up key + OK Button and holding both press Power button simultaneously. Now choose wipe data/ factory reset then choose wipe Cache partition and reboot your device by tapping on reboot system now option.
