Steps to Root Motorola Defy

Step-1: Install ADB in your computer and download the latest version of Boot menu from the Must Have section. Unzip the downloaded package into the Boot menu folder and move this folder to the root of your phone’s SD card.

Step-2: Connect your phone to the computer via original USB Cable obtained at purchase time and launch the terminal window or command prompt to enter the commands mentioned below

Step-2: After downloading the ROM select the options of Backup Existing ROM > Wipe Data Cache. The phone will reboot into Recovery mode. In Recovery mode select Wipe data Cache then CyanogenMod 7 to install it. After installing, the phone will again reboot into CyanogenMod.

Steps to Flash Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0 via Recovery Method:

Step-1: Download CyanogenMod 7.1.0 Defy from the Must Have section and save it to the root folder of your phone’s SD Card.

Step-2: Boot the device into Clockwork Mod Recovery with the help of Volume or Power button or with trackball since the touch interface wont work. In Recovery mode select the options of “Wipe data/factory reset” > Wipe Cache partition then choose “Install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” and select the CyanogenMod update.zip to install it.

Step-3: After installation is complete, navigate to Main menu and choose the option of “Reboot System now” to boot into Cyanogen Mod.
