Steps To Update HTC Desire S With Cyanogen MOD Gingerbread 2.3.7 Firmware:
The entire process is broadly divided into two parts. First part is to Install Custom Recovery and get S Off and second part is to Install Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Gingerbread 2.3.7.
Enable USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > USB Debugging”. Now disable the fast boot by following the path “Settings > Power > Fast boot”.
Download and install HTC Sync Beta drivers.
Install Custom Recovery and get S Off:
Step-1: Browse the HTC Beta generator Key site where you will come across an option of ”Download for Windows” and a file will be prompted to be downloaded. Download it and a notification called “Beta Key” will appear where you need to fill in the details like your operating system, device name, HBOOT version and serial number of your phone. Once you are done, click on “Generate Key”.

Install Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Gingerbread 2.3.7:
Step-3: Download Cyanogen MOD 2.3.7 For Desire S Zip Package and the latest version of Google Apps Zip File to your computer. Connect your phone to the computer via USB Cable and copy both the zip files as it is without renaming or modifying them. Place the files in an easy to find location since placing them deep in any sub-folders won’t help in detecting them.
Step-4: Turn Off your device and then press Volume Down button and power On the phone again to enter into the recovery mode. After entering into the recovery mode, select option “Backup and Restore” using the Side volume keys, to backup the currently installed ROM on your HTC Desire S smartphone.
Step-5: Click on the “Clear Storage” option then click on “install Zip from sd card” and first choose the zip file of Cyanogen MOD 7.1 for Desire S kept in the phone then the zip file of Google Apps. Now your device will either restart or will again go back to recovery mode page. In case you again enter into recovery mode, select “++++Go Back++++” to get back to the main menu. Then select “Reboot System now” option so that your phone will reboot and Gingerbread 2.3.7 powered by Cyanogen Mod will be installed.
