Steps to Install Cyanogen Mod 7.1 Custom ROM in Motorola Droid X:

Basically there are two methods to install this custom ROM in your Motorola Droid 2 phone. First is by Recovery mode and another one is by using ROM Manager method. It is suggested that you opt for Recovery mode method and if this fails you can then go for updating via ROM Manager. Let’s go through both the procedures in detail.

Recovery Method:

Step-1: Download Cyanogen Mod7.1 Custom Firmware and Google Apps mentioned in the Must Have section to your computer and power off your phone to enter into boot loader mode.

Step-2: The boot loader mode can be entered by holding the Volume Down + Camera + Power buttons simultaneously. In case the device boots into normal mode you can try to enter into Recovery mode using the correct button combinations multiple times till you are finally there.

Step-3: In Recovery mode choose “Recovery” option then choose the option of “Wipe data/ Factory reset” and “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all cache files present in your phone. Now choose ”Install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” to select the Cyanogen Mod7.1 Custom ROM Zip Package followed by Google Apps file kept in your phone.

Step-4: After the updation process is complete, you will again land up in Recovery mode. Now choose “++++Go Back++++” then “Reboot system now” option to restart the phone.

If you face any issues during the updation process then re-insert the battery and re-apply the whole procedure again from the beginning. If you are still unable to update then follow the ROM Manager method as mentioned below.

ROM Manager Method:

Step-1: Download and install ROM Manager Application in your phone from the Must Have section. Choose “Flash Clock Work Mod Recovery” option and update to its latest version.

Step-2: Now choose “Download ROM” option and from the main menu of ROM Manager.  Next select the latest Cyanogen Mod ROM version from the menu then choose Google Apps.

Step-3: After having selecting the files and the process completes, you can choose to select the “Backup Existing ROMs” then “Wipe Data and Cache”. If any super user asks for any root permissions check to “Remember” then “Allow”

Step-4: Droid 2 will again reboot in Recovery mode. In Recovery mode choose the option of “Wipe data/ Factory reset” then select “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all cache files present in your phone. After the updation process is complete, choose “++++Go Back++++” then “Reboot system now” option to restart the phone.

Thus you can easily update your Motorola Droid X with Cyanogen Mod7 update by following the steps mentioned above carefully.
