How to Download and Install Official Android 2.3.3 on HTC Desire

HTC has recently officially released the updated Android 2.3.3 version “Gingerbread” for their popular smartphone Desire. Users confident of installing ROMs are recommended to download and install it manually by following some simple steps such as downloading a few files, connecting your desire to the computer and pressing a couple of buttons.

Steps To Install Gingerbread On HTC Desire:

Step-1: Download HTC Sync and install it on your phone to ensure that it gets connected properly to your computer.

Step-2: Download HTC Desire Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread file titled as HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade and having file size of 161MB. Extract the .zip file using a suitable extracting software. The extracted folder contains the complete update as well as two apps, one in the form of .apk files that are not included by HTC in the update and the second is a collection of wallpapers.

To install the .apk files navigate to Settings > Applications and check Unknown sources. Next copy those .apk files to your phone’s SD Card and open them with a file explorer like Astro then install the apps normally.

Step-3: Connect your HTC Deisre with the computer and run RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade.exe from the previous extracted folder. Follow the on-screen instructions and read the warnings carefully at each level. Take a look at the following screenshots for reference.

Step-4: Tap on Update to restart the installer and then tap on Next. Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread will now get installed on your phone. The process takes some time to complete and after completion your phone will boot into a new installed copy of the latest Android version for your smartphone.
