CES 2012 Android Wrap Up

CES Consumer Electronics Show was held at Las Vegas from January 10th of this month till the 13th. It is the biggest Electronics show where numerous new device announcements are made. This year it rained Android powered smartphones and tablets. A lot of new smartphones, tablets and devices were announced on Press Day at the ongoing consumer Electronics Show held at Las Vegas. Among all the major companies, Samsung was on lead as it announced the most number of devices this year. Let’s take a tour on the list of devices released during the ongoing CES 2012.

  • Sony Xperia S – Sony came up with a big news by the announcement of Xperia S that will supposedly be the first phone from Sony in the Xperia NXT series. This phone will feature 4.3 inches HD display screen with 342 ppi pixel density, a dual core processor at 1.5 Ghz and 12 MP camera on the rear side.
  • Samsung InTouch Android HD webcam – Samsung InTouch debuts in the making of standalone HD webcam for Smart TVs. It will provide tough competition to TelyHD webcam will be priced at $ 199.99.
  • Fujitsu Arrows – Fujitsu Arrows now adds its name among the recent Quad core smartphone announced at CES 2012. With 4.6 inches HD display screen, NVIDIA Tegra 3 dual core processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 13.1 MP camera and IP 67 ceritificationthis smartphone is sure to stand out in the crowd. It is expected to arrive on NTT Docomo during the early second quarter of 2012.
  • ViewSonic ViewPad E70 – ViewPad E70 will be a 7 inch Android tablet ready to give competition to Kindle Fire from Amazon. It comes with 1 Ghz dual core processor along with Android 4.0 version. ViewPad is expected to launch at the starting of Quarter 2 at a price of $ 169 that offers much better deal to consumers.
  • Sony Xperia Ion – The elite Sony Xperia Ion will come to United States on AT & T network in second quarter. It was the first announcement from Sony after their discontinuation with Ericsson. It will feature a 4.6 inch HD display with 1.5 Ghz dual core processor and 12 MP camera.
  • Vizio VTAB 3010 M Android Tablet – Vizio showcased their upcoming stylish tablets with a different design. They just showcased the picture and tablet but didn’t provide any specifications.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for Verizon Wireless – The second generation of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 shipped by Verizon Wireless arrives in United States with 4G LTE speed. This was the only device from Samsung that is not a new device but was showcased at CES,  as it debuts in United States.
  • LG Viper on Sprint – LG Viper high end smartphone with 4G LTE capabilities is among the few devices to be added to 4G LTE segment of Sprint network after Galaxy Nexus. It comes with a 4 inch WVGA display screen and features 1.2 Ghz dual core processor with 5 MP camera.
  • Sony SmartWatch – Along with Sony Xperia S and Xperia Ion handsets announcement, the Sony SmartWatch Bluetooth device was announced.
  • Verizon Motorola Droid 4 – Verizon Wireless got Motorola Droid 4 Android handset with 4G LTE capabilities, 8 MP camera, 1.3 MP front facing camera for video chat at CES 2012.
  • Pantech Burst Smartphone – The budget friendly Pantech Burst phone on AT & T network with 4G LTE capabilities was announced. It is supposed to be launched in January 22, 2012.
  • Toshiba Excite X10 tablet – Toshiba came up with a bang as it announced the world’s thinnest 10 inch tablet in the Android category. The major features of this tablet are dual core processor clocked at 1.2 Ghz, 1 GB of RAM,  Android 3.2 Honeycomb processor along with 5 MP and 2 MP camera.
  • Samsung Exhilarate –  Samsung Exhilarate was among the six devices expected to ship on AT & T network. This smartphone is made up of 80 percent recycled PC material with 4G LTe capabilities. It boasts of  Super AMOLED display from Samsung.
  • Pantech Element – Pantech Element will be the first 4G LTE enabled tablet to be unleashed via AT & T on January 22 along with Pantech Burst smartphone. It has a 8 inch display screen, runs on Honeycomb 3.2 and will be priced at $ 299.99.
  • Acer Iconia Tab A700 – Acer Iconia Tab A700 with quad core processor was the latest tablet announced at ongoing CES 2012. It has 10 inch display with full HD 1080p for video and will run on the latest Ice Cream Sandwich on board.
  • Orange Tahiti Tablet – Orange Tahiti comes with dual features like 1.2 GHz processor, 5 MP camera and 7 inch display screen. It will arrive on Orange network.
  • Huawei Ascend P1 S – Huawei Ascend P1 S signifies the debut of Huawei in the high end smartphones category as it features 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD display with Gorilla Glass display screen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 8 MP camera with LED flash and auto focus.
  • Pantech Vega LTE EX – This comes as an off CES news since there is nothing new in this device except for the launch of 4G LTE addition to it in Korea. The phone will be available in Korea through LG U+ network.
  • Sol Computer’s 7 Inches Tablet – Sol Computer showcased the proto type of their upcoming 7 inches Android tablet featuring their unique Pixle Qi display screen. Further specifications were not announced and the tablet is expected to be priced over $ 1000.
  • Archos 70b Honeycomb tablet – Another off CES news is that Archos has unveiled an Amazon Kindle Fire  competitor that is the Archos 70b Honeycomb tablet. Specifications are on high end with 7 inches screen, 1.2 Ghz dual core processor and 8 GB internal storage. It will run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS.
  • Polaroid SC1630 Digital Camera – this is not a smartphone or tablet but is a digital point to shoot camera of 16 MP  running on Android 2.3.4 and has 3.2 inch LCD touchscreen display along with 3G for data usage.
  • ViewSonic ViewPad 10e & ViewPad 10i – These mid range Android tablets from ViewSonic i.e., ViewPad 10e and ViewPad 10i both come with 10 inches display screen and are available for United States customers.
  •  Telstra with HTC Velocity 4G LTE – Off from CES, HTC Velocity 4G LTE will be the first smartphone with 4G LTE capability to be launched in Australia. It will be available before the end of this month.
  • Sony Z Series Android Walkman – Sony has announced listless products at CES 2012. Newly spotted are the Sony Z Series Android powered walkman that will be available in February 2012. Till now there are three variants in Z Series Walkman.
  • Asus Prime Mini – This is the little sibling of Transformer Prime and comes with quad core Tegra 3 processor, 7 inch display screen for a price of $ 249.
  • Acer Iconia A510 – Similar to Asus Prime Mini, Acer Iconia A510 resembles its elder sibling Iconia A700. It will house a 10.1 inches screen and most importantly it will come with Tegra 3 quad core processor.
  • Sony NSZ GS7 Media Player – Network Media player are now powered by Android and Sony NSZ GS 7 is Android 4.0 powered Media Player announced at CES 2012.
  • Motorola Droid Razr Maxx – The Droid Razr Maxx from Motorola was announced at the CES 2012 on Verizon Wireless. This phone is much in hype for its almost 24 hours of battery life.
  • Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G – T-Mobile announced that they would soon be rolling out Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G having 1.5 Ghz dual core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.5 Ghz and Super AMOLED display.
  • Lenovo K800 Phone – Lenovo K800 might be the first Intel chipset powered by Android phone . It promises to come with Android 4.0 update soon and will be released only in China through China Telecom.
  • Idolian IdolPad Tablet – Now-a-days when you hardly get tablets at a price of $ 100 or less, IdolPad is the one tablet listed for sale at $ 99 as a promotional offer. It is a 7 inch tablet powered with Cortex A8 processor at 1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. It runs on 2.3 Android version and has 4 GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card slot. It includes various other features like Wi-Fi, Android Market access, HDMI support, USB 2.0 connectivity along with support for Netflix and Skye video.
  • Philips GoGear Connect 3.5 Media Player - This is the only product from Philips and is not that big announcement.  GoGear Connect 3.5 Media Player is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered music player with 3.5 inches HVGA display screen and 720p HD video playback capabilities. This media player will be available globally in the market from April 2012.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus N – Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus N is the modified version after Apple patents was introduced in European market. It is an Off CES news that features a tablet running on Android 3.2 Honeycomb processor with 7 inch display screen.
  • Huawei Ascend P1 LTE – This variant of Huawei Ascend P1 is similar to the model announced earlier with only the 4G LTE capabilities added. It has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display, 1.5 Ghz dual core processor, 8 MP camera and front facing 1.3 MP camera.
  • Coby’s 6 Android 4.0 Powered Tablets – Coby company came up with 6 tablets announcement all powered with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The tablets range from 7 inches to 10.1 inches and are priced accordingly from $ 179 to $ 279. The models are MID 7042-a 7 inch tablet, MID 8042-a 8 inch tablet, MID 9042-a 9 inch tablet, MID 9742-a 9.7 inch tablet, MID 1042-a 10.1 inch tablet and MID 1045-a 10.1 inch tablet.
  • WikiPad Glasses Free 3D Android Tablet – WikiPad showcased their Android tablet that can show 3D content and comes with attachable game controller. It is a 8 inch tablet powered with the latest Android version that is ICS Android 4.0.
  • Aigo M718HD & M803 Tablets- Its raining tablets and Aigo announced the launch of two tablets namely M718HD and M803 both powered with Ice Cream Sandwich. M803 is an 7 inch Android tablet and Aigo M718HD is an 8 inch tablet.
  • Velocity Micro Cruz T507 & 510 Tablets – Velocity Micro Cruz announced their new tablets powered with 1.2 Ghz Cortex A8 processor along with 3D graphical acceleration from ARM Mali 400 and 8 GB internal memory. T510 is a 9.7 inch tablet with Android 4.0.1 and T510 is a 7 inch tablet with TFT LED display. Prices of both were not announced at CES.
  • Samsung Galaxy 3.6 – Galaxy Player 3.6 is the latest music player running on Android 2.3. It has 1 Ghz Hummingbird processor and sports 3.6 inch display. It will be launched in South Korea at a price of USD 173.
  • Skytex Android 4.0 Tablet – Skytex also came up with their own Google Android 4.0 tablets powered with 1.2 Ghz single core processor and Mali 400 along with 1080p HD video playback. The best thing about this tablet is that it comes with removable battery.
  • iGoGo TV top box – iGoGo is an Android TV set top box that comes with pre installed Android 2.3 . You can convert your normal TV into an Android powered TV and thus install various apps from Android Market. It  supports full HD video playback and comes with Cortex A8 process clocked at 1 GHz.
  • Casio G-Shock SmartPhone – Casio unveiled a new robust Android smartphone ever that can almost withstand anything. High on features and high on looks, this is the one smart phone to look for in the coming months.

So this is it the final list of 50 devices that were announced at CES 2012. We expected atleast 30 devices to launch but the number turned out to be 50 consisting of Android tablets, smartphones, media player and even digital camera. It now time to wave goodbye to CES 2012 and prepare ourself for the upcoming Mobile World Congress going to be held at Barcelona, Spain in the last week of February this year.
